SPARKLES & SPICE

Bonjour! I'm a foodie artist located in San Francisco. I savor the small pleasures in life, mainly delectable noms. I love slowing down to take notice of detail, delighting in what is often easy to rush habitually through. I live Mindfully.

Seinfeld restaurant, Daniel Radcliff in the nude, and short short hair Jan 26, 2009by amanda9 Comments

First off, work was good this week. I don’t know if it flew by because of the four day week due to MLK day, or if I’m just getting into the swing of things here. Anyway, the major highlight of this week at UVPhactory was creating some design concepts for Theory. I think I will be doing a short project for them, which should be exciting since they are such a well known fashion and clothing store. Aside from this I have continued to observe co-workers animating and help them out whenever possible whether it be simple Photoshop work or a small piece in After Effects.

Emily and I did our weekly lunch at Red Egg, a Chinese place that is nearly right next door to our building. The atmosphere was nice, there were some pretty lights, light tea, chopsticks on stands, and good prices on lunch specials. I ordered sliced chicken and pineapple while Emily got a vegetarian pan fried noodle dish (it looked rather slimy). I was really happy with my food, it was beautifully colored with mango, green peppers and tomatoes and tasted incredible even though I ate it with a fork.

random, but I felt like posting the cake we had for my co-workers birthday as well as the cute owl gloves I bought last weekend. Then there’s me and my pineapple chicken!

Friday night was spent eating left overs and watching Clockwork Orange. This was only before we ran to the supermarket on a cookie run. I had a ferocious craving for Oreos after Stumbling Upon this recipe for Oreo truffles. No, I did not make those, but I sent the recipe to my mom and she’ll be cranking them out for a Superbowl Party. They seem very similar to cake balls (cake mashed up, mixed with icing, rolled into a ball and then dipped in chocolate -which in one word is a woman’s heaven).

Saturday was my big day this weekend. Melissa and I met up with Emily to go buy student rush tickets for Equus at the Broadhurst Theatre on 44th St. After purchasing some relatively cheap tickets at 10:30, we had a lot of time to kill before the 2 o’clock showing. We hopped on the 1 and rode all the way to the Upper West Side where we went to Tom’s Restaurant. I couldn’t help posing for a picture infront of the famous Seinfeld diner. Inside was a little busy but the food was great and the prices were even better. I got a club sandwhich for 7 bucks…a pretty good price for NY. Coincidentally, right as we finished walking out of the place, my Dad called. My Dad who loves watching reruns of Seinfeld and who, because of this, is the reason for my interest in the show. To me, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms :)

That’s me real small in front of Tom’s Restaurant and the sandwich I had. Then it’s me and Melissa :) and at the bottom is a picture of the theatre where we saw Equus.

After filling up we ventured to 59th street and wandered the paths of Central Park for a little while. Despite all of the dead trees and icy covered hills, it was still a pretty sight to see the sun shining over the buildings and onto the park. It was cold though, and very windy among all of those buildings so Melissa and I left Emily to some picture taking while we headed to the nearby mall. The mall housed some artwork which was neat to look at and of course there were some great stores such as J Crew and Montemartre that I couldnt help looking in.

We got back to the theatre just in time to be seated and ready for the show. Let’s just say that from rumour, I was expecting Daniel Radcliff’s character, Alan, to be sexually involved with the horses. This wasn’t the case, it was more an obsession of worship and passion that he had for them as well as some sexual tension. The whole story, which involved mostly his psychiatrist  (Richard Griffiths a.k.a. Mr. Dursley haha), was fascinating to me and I thought it was a great play. I did laugh when I saw naked running and “dancing” on the stage…but that couldn’t be helped no matter how great the performance! The horses were portrayed as tall men with metal wired heads and hooves which they pranced about on, I thought it was magnificent, but then again I am also obsessed with horses…mahahaha just kidding. I love horses but I don’t think they’re Jesus.

Today me and Melissa went exploring East Village a bit. She bought some shoes, held a birdie, and then we went to a small cafe where I got some warm apple cider soaked in cinnamon sticks…mmmmmm.

My hair is chopped!! AND ITS AWESOME! Me and Melissa went to a salon nearby on 9th St. called Lovemore & Do (pictured above). I wasn’t sure I could pull of a short pixie cut, but I did it and I’m so glad I finally worked up the confidence. Sue did our hair and she was amazing. She massaged my neck while washing my hair and was so meticulously detailed that the cut couldn’t have been anything but perfect. I loved it! I think I may go back to her before heading home to Cincinnati :)

Also, I got Chipotle tonight to wrap up a fantastic weekend!
