lions are apparently my new animal obsession Jan 29, 2009by amanda3 Comments

*note this post is keeping in mind the fact that I love horses the best and always have <3

I think I go through animal phases. When I was a kid I was in love with cheetahs. I even pretended to be one. But then that faded and I liked wolves. I even had dreams about them living underneath the huge pine tree behind our house (which actaully isn’t there anymore because it died).

In highschool it was peacocks, peacock earrings, peacock pumps (yes they’re adorable), and not to mention I designed a dress for junior prom using none other than the peacock for my inspiration. Well then it was pandas because my boyfriend called me mandapanda and man pan. So I was given panda shirts and a little stuffed animal to quench my panda crazyness. For a while after that I got into hummingbirds and how they symbolized perseverance (which is why they are fluttering around my portfolio site, for how else will get you through the design world but with a ton of perseverance?)

Anyway now I’m getting to the lion. Who knows why all of a sudden I wanted to focus on lions. All I know is when I was thinking about what to do for my motion piece last quarter I desperatley wanted to draw a lion. I loved their slinking but regal movements, the potential of their waving mane, and their giant paws that spread across the earth as they walk.  Because of this I used Leo, also my zodiac sign, in my motion project last quarter and now everytime I think about drawing an animal, it’s a lion. I plan to do an actual colored composition with a lion and a girl, but in the meantime I was bored at work and sketchy sketched this guy.
